Watches to watch
I go through phases with watches. I used to have one GLUED to my wrist at all times. Now, since my cell phone has become permanently attached to my existence, watches have become less about function and more about fashion. Even when I do wear a watch now, as if by habit, I still pull my phone from my pocket to check the time.
With this recent discovery in mind I had set my sights on my perfect watch! I think I may have found it, but before I reveal the winner. Here are some other awesome watches I’ve found along the way.
The adorable cassette-tape-inspired EOS Mixtape Watch completely proves my point of fashion over function. I would never in a million years be able to tell the time with this thing, but the fact that I know it is keeping track of time is cool enough on it’s own. ($165)
The IDEA Icon Watch takes 8-bit digital imagery and serves it up in 3 dimensional realness. Have you ever wanted to feel like a video game character? Well here is your chance to do just that. Whether you’re telling time or not, the chances of you defeating the evil villain at the end of the level is a lot higher when you’re wearing this baby. ($79)
The quintessential watch that isn’t a watch. The IDEA
Madokadoke Bracelet LED Watch has a hidden button that when pressed reveals the time through the lines on the watches surface. Is it a watch? Is it a bangle? Who knows?! ($149)
The Gattica Watch from EOS is a spike studded leather strap that even covers over the timepiece of the watch. Now you can look like a rock star AND know what time it is. Real rock stars never have working cell phones because they are too busy smashing them every time they have a fight with their lover while they are on tour. So this watch might even get used once or twice. Also, it’s kind of a weapon. 3 uses in one! ($52)
But the winner and my new favorite watch is from TIKKR. These watches tickle my fancy because they are cute, modern, functional, affordable, and fashionable.
TIKKR’s watches come in two pieces. Faces, and bands. Each of which come in numerous colors. I bought a pack that came with a white face and three blue bands of different shades, which is perfect for me since 80% of my closet is some shade of blue or teal. The faces easily snap into place in whichever band fits your mood (or your clothes) on any particular day. With the amount of colors between faces and bands the combinations are endless and can blend with anything you’re wearing.
My favorite part about this TIKKR collection though is that, though you can buy any band for $20, you can get all 20 band colors for $200. It’s like buying 20 watches for the price of one! I’m starting to sound like an infomercial now, so I’ll stop. I’m in love with this brand.
